Global Warming? Not At the “World’s Longest Skating Rink”

When it freezes over every winter, the Rideau Canal in Ottawa becomes “the world’s longest skating rink.” And this is the 55th straight day it’s been open to the public.

That’s a record, says long time Ottawa resident Brian Lilley.

The river normally thaws out at least once in a while during the season, rendering it unsafe for skating — but not this year.

“I was promised global warming!” Lilley jokes, before going on to talk about the climate change bigwig accused of sexual harassment.

See that hut to the left of Brian that only cost $250,000 and there is around 5.

A visiting Dutchman was telling me how in winter they skate along the canals and at each little town a local cafe beside the canal will put tables and chairs out on the ice, and one can just skate into a chair and have a coffee or meal. Sounds great! But I would have to learn how to skate.

Right now I heard that lake Erie is frozen over which hasn’t happened for a long time now.
Garth Brooks just performed in Buffalo this week and he thought someone was joking about walking across the lake to Canada .

I never have skated on the Rideau Canal. But would love to some day. That and skate on the canals of Mars (see Robert Heinlein’s book Red Planet).
Do they still use the term Global Warming? I thought they had changed to Climate Change. The more ambiguity the better.

I’ve been meaning to say something about all the brutal cold you Canadians have been sending down here. It’s going to be -3 tonight and that’s simply not acceptable for early March. Cease and desist or I’ll sue for damages and mental anguish.

Suffer in silence or we will send the Cold.

Alberta has had a nearly record mild winter. It’s the beginning of March and the usual daytime high should be in the -16C range but we got up as high as +9C today. So I just want to say thanks for sending us your warm weather in exchange for our ice and snow.

Get ready for a late opening to the St. Lawrence Locks which means a really bad season for shipping , and the normal imported goods because if we get any more of this Global Warming this year the Locks may close early .
