After Securing Gay Rights Throughout The Muslim World Queers Against Israeli Apartheid Disbands

Queers Against Israeli Apartheid disbands

The Palestinian rights group Queers Against Israeli Apartheid is shutting itself down after seven years of activism and controversy.

Tim McCaskell, one of the group’s leaders, announced in a news release Thursday that QuAIA will “officially retire” at the end of this month.

The release states the Toronto-based group was formed in 2008 during Israeli Apartheid Weed at the University of Toronto where concerns were raised about Israel’s “use of gay rights to divert international attention away from the state’s violation of Palestinian human rights.”
