Tory fury as Church of England releases ‘shopping list’ of left wing policies three months before the general election

The Church of England was today embroiled in a furious political row after being accused of releasing a ‘shopping list’ of left-wing policies – less than three months before the general election.

In an unprecedented political intervention, the Church issued a 52-page ‘manifesto’ attacking Margaret Thatcher, demanding higher pay for the poor and calling for a debate on the end of Britain’s nuclear deterrent.

The ‘Pastoral Letter’, released this afternoon, also backs co-operation in Europe, criticises the the immigration debate, praises foreign aid and claims it is the moral ‘duty’ of every Christian to vote…
