Ottawa revokes Iranian trained Montreal Imam’s passport

Federal officials have revoked the passport of an Iranian-trained Montreal imam.

A Canadian citizen since 1991, Ali Sbeiti was advised in a Nov. 19 letter that his passport had been invalidated.

No reason was given in the letter but, according to a report in the National Post, internal government documents show that the Mounties have expressed interest in Sbeiti since 2009.

The Iraqi-born man was once deemed a “subject of interest in an ongoing investigation” by the RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET).

Neither Sbeiti nor his lawyer, Mitchell Goldberg, could be reached for comment.
