Calgary cabbie charged with sexually assaulting female fare

Sexual assault charges have been laid against a Calgary cabbie accused of attacking a woman while driving her home.

The woman was taking a cab from a downtown hotel to her home in Riverbend about 3:40 a.m. on Jan. 25 when the attack happened, said Det. Karen MacLeod.

“The victim felt uncomfortable throughout the cab ride based on conversation that was being had,” she said.

“Upon arrival near her residence, near a back alley, the cab driver assisted the victim outside the passenger side of the vehicle and proceeded to kiss her.”

Umar Khayyam, 35, was arrested Jan. 30 and is facing one count of sexual assault.
