Translation: “The bribes being offered and accepted by our inspectors remain totally inadequate considering the resources these head chopping fanatics have at their disposal.”
If the arabic instruction is deemed to be good, where does that leave urdu?

Arabic is necessary for memorizing the Koran, considered very prestigious in some weirdo circles.

Some have the view that memorizing all the arabic sounds involved in the koran from cover to cover without having the slightest idea of what a large part of it means is the purest form of learning. Indeed, the only learning ever needed with the obvious exceptions of how to kill people and break stuff.

Maybe that’s true! I should look into it more. The world of Islam is very bizarre.

          • simus1

            Don’t look into it.
Disruption of normal thought processes is always an imminent danger without thorough preparation.

Wikipedia says the practice started because the Koran was originally not written down. It also says the Arabic script was inadequate (missing diacritics). Paper was rare, people were illiterate.

By the time it was all written down, the practice of memorizing was already entrenched in the culture. At this juncture, it had not spread past Arabic speakers.

But no similar tradition ever developed in Christianity. It started in an urban setting. The New Testament was written in Greek. By that time, passing on knowledge by writing it down already had a long history.

Isn’t this the same Ofsted which complained that one very small school was too ‘white’, and withdrew the credentials of another because a pupil mentioned Islam and terrorism in the same breath? Bloody hypocrites!!

    • Frau Katze

      Yes, I believe it is.

I think the Minister of Education may have said that learning Arabic would be an essential skill once England became a vassal state of the new Caliphate.
