Hamas welcomes ICC probe into possible war crimes in Palestinian territories

Hamas said on Saturday it welcomed a decision by the International Criminal Court to launch an inquiry into possible war crimes in the Palestinian territories.

ICC prosecutors said on Friday the preliminary examination would scrutinize “in full independence and impartiality” crimes that may have occurred since June 13 last year, opening a path to possible charges against Israelis or Palestinians.

The court’s decision came after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, a rival to Hamas, requested ICC membership, against strong opposition from Israel and the United States.

Fawzi Barhoum, a spokesman for Hamas which rules the Gaza Strip, said on Saturday the Islamist group appreciated the move.

“What is needed now is to quickly take practical steps in this direction and we are ready to provide (the court) with thousands of reports and documents that confirm the Zionist enemy has committed horrible crimes against Gaza and against our people,” he said in a statement.

And when the IPCC finds the islamic terrorists in charge of Gaza to be guilty of attacks, murders and intent to commit genocide on Israel then what? Does Hamas and gang get fined? Do they pay that fine with money slipped to them from the UK, US and Saudis and then just get on with business as usual? Or, how about, Israel is given the right to eliminate the threat? (Well they already have the right to eliminate threats to their survival, but acceptance of that would be a good thing as well).

I guess they’ll head over next door, to Syria and Iraq once they’re done investigating in the Jordanian Territories.

Isn’t using human shields a war crime?

    • I hope that comes up.

So is firing rockets indiscriminately at civilian populations, shedding uniforms to fight in civilian clothes, transporting weapons in ambulances, storing weapons in schools, hospitals and mosques and militarizing children.

The ICC has a serious choice, whether to exonerate Israel and prosecute Hamas, or drag its good name through the mud. Furthermore, Israel is not signatory to the Rome treaty and doesn’t recognize the court’s jurisdiction.

I would be surprised if the Pallies do not try to ‘adjust’ the investigations so as to use only Pallie-supplied documents and ‘evidence’. Any “Zionist-sourced” material will be summarily rejected.
