In an Isil propaganda video last year, a young boy, barely in his teens if that, was asked what he wanted to do with his future.
“I will be the one who slaughters you, O kuffar,” he said in his high-pitched voice, smiling to the camera.
Now he has had his chance: in a new video that is distressing even by the standards of Islamic State of Iraq and Levant, the boy, who is called Abdullah and is thought to be from Kazakhstan, is filmed executing two men accused of being Russian spies.
The video, which is filmed in the same heavily edited, highly dramatised form common with Isil productions, cannot be independently verified. Close-ups of the bodies are not shown.
However, the young boy who carries out the apparent killings, with an automatic pistol, has been seen in previous works of propaganda, including the film last year in which he plays a starring role set in a training camp for young Kazakh jihadists…
