Police seize children of ‘Mama Jihad’

TWO young children were seized from their mother by counterterrorism officers in the first intervention of its kind involving suspected jihadists returning to Britain from Syria.

The children were taken into police protection for their own safety as the woman, 25, was arrested at Luton airport last week on suspicion of preparing for acts of terrorism.

The youngsters, who had accompanied their mother on a flight from Istanbul, in Turkey, could be placed in care.

The social services department at Haringey council in north London — which notoriously failed to prevent the death in 2007 of Peter Connelly, also known as Baby P — is liaising with police to determine how best to safeguard the two children in the long term.
