The cover art tells it all – there’s no people in the idealized environment.

      No primates of any kind.

Has the Pope bestowed upon us the same ranking as G-d? Do we now control climate? If so, I am commanding it to stop snowing where I am and warm up to 21 C. and the sun to shine.

    • Good, call off the storm heading for Toronto this afternoon, I gotta go out later!

      • Santos2

Done. That’ll cost you one goat sacrificed at the altar of your choosing. 😉

What did you expect from the head of a religion that worships a god that looks like you and me?

A poli sci prof once pointed out to me that any time someone says “society” is responsible, he means in practice that no one is.

Consider the following statement: Everyone is responsible for law enforcement on this campus!

Well, if anyone thinks I am going to get involved with a violent addict in withdrawal … who may even have a weapon …

So then in practice, nobody in particular is responsible for law enforcement on campus. They told me I was, and I am just going to sneak away with no consequences.

Now suppose the person informs me instead:

The municipal police [or the campus police or a private police force] are responsible for law enforcement on this campus.

Okay, now I know who must confront the violent addict – whether or not he is armed.

That’s what we always really mean by “responsible for law enforcement.”

One could say the same about climate change. If we can’t identify who exactly is to do what, no one is responsible for doing anything.

I wonder how much of this is happy talk. In terms of actions, the Pope has appointed Cardinal George Pell to a key role within the Vatican. Pell is a free market champion and is ferociously anti-green. He has canned the many greenie boondoggles that the Vatican had been supporting under the previous administration.

And then there is the Pope’s apparent attitude to Capitalism. He is supposedly hostile to it, but when you look into it, what he is actually against is the ‘crony-Capitalism’ that is the norm in South America.

    • icowrich

What he opposed to is materialism, which is at the heart of both capitalism and socialism.

Maybe Premier Wynne can work together with the Pope and erect numerous wind turbines in St. Peter’s Square and throughout the Vatican? With so much hot air blowing, surely some energy can be harnessed!

    • Pete_Brewster

While he’s at it, maybe he can give her her own convent!

The Church of Rome have never been a friend of capitalism, which they associate with the Jews, as well as the Protestants who relieved the Roman hierarchy of most of their temporal political power, for which the hierarchy has never forgiven them. Rerum Novarum and Quadragesimo Anno are full of the anti-capitalistic nonsense that bred the corporate states of Argentina, Italy and the Irish Free State among others.

Par for the course, this rubbish. Mind you I doubt previous popes would have dressed it up in something looking like a child’s book on the environment coming from a vanity press.

Then again, if it convinces some American Catholics to turn away from Rome and turn to God and Christ at last, maybe some good will come of this.

The Pope is a tool and should be replaced.

If we are all god’s creatures, how can anything done by man be “unnatural”?

  • SineWaveII

    Shut up Francis.

Will the pope decide to bring back the purchasing of indulgences in lieu of a carbon tax by the church? At his increasing rate of silliness it wouldn’t surprise me.
