Luka Magnotta guilty of first-degree murder

MONTREAL — Luka Rocco Magnotta was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder for killing and dismembering Chinese student Jun Lin.

The Toronto native will receive an automatic life sentence with no parole for 25 years.

The four-man, eight-woman jury unanimously rejected his insanity defence after nearly eight days of deliberations following three months of testimony.

They convicted Magnotta of four other charges including indignity to a human body.

The jury foreman, a middle-aged bearded man in a sport coat, said “guilty” in a loud, clear voice to all the counts read out by the clerk.

Magnotta, sleepy-eyed, pudgy and sporting a jail coat, had absolutely no reaction in the prisoner’s box.
