U.S. and Cuba, in Breakthough, Resume Diplomatic Relations

WASHINGTON — The United States will restore full diplomatic relations with Cuba and open an embassy in Havana for the first time in more than a half-century after the release of an American contractor held in prison for five years, American officials said Wednesday.

In a deal negotiated during 18 months of secret talks hosted largely by Canada and encouraged by Pope Francis, who hosted a final meeting at the Vatican, President Obama and President Raúl Castro of Cuba agreed in a telephone call to put aside decades of hostility to find a new relationship between the United States and the island nation just 90 minutes off the American coast.

There goes The Monroe Doctrine that has served the US well over hundreds of years. What else will Obama destroy before leaving office?

    • Exile1981

      The country?

      • Clausewitz

The country? Hell he’s well on his way to destroying the world.

Someone with photoshop needs to do a picture of obama as that annoying tv kid who always said “did i do that” with a picture of a mushroom cloud behind him.

Normalizing relations with Cuba does not mean destroying America.
Actually, it would be far better for Cuba to stay away from America because Cuba will only gain from America such bad things as: inflation, political and economical instability, materialism, capitalism, the erosion of the Cuban culture and sense of community there, “gay, LGBTQ” activism and the garbage political system we call “liberal democracy”.

Another bozo moment for the biggest bozo of them all, Barak Obama. Whenever he sees a country, or group, undertaking massive human rights violations, he rushes to give them as much help as possible. Obama is a moral and intellectual embarrassment.

Caught Florida Senator Mario Rubio talking Obama’s appeasement, on CNBC News this morning, and Rubio was very forceful and articulate, arguing in favour of the jailed dissidents, and attacking Cuba’s totalitarian regime. I pegged Rubio as a isolationist Tea Partier, but he has far more depth than that.

Our enemies must be rewarded and coddled.

This is going to kill tourism in Florida. Back in the 50s when Cuba was still a premier tourist destination for Americans, Miami wasn’t nearly the city it is today.

People I work with have been going to Cuba for years to get in on those all inclusive vacation deals during the winter.
      I’ve always found it disgusting.
It’s like vacationing in a concentration camp.

About time. The normalization will help the Cuban people develop into a free society, something that was impossible as long as they were isolated.

    • Clausewitz

As long as they are run by the Castro’s there will never be freedom in Cuba. Give your head a shake.

      • Bataviawillem

There has bin a lot on improvement already and the Castro’s don’t live forever.

        • Clausewitz

I think that’s what they said about the Stalin regime as well.

      • Justin

It has been proven the so-called Western “freedoms and liberal democracy” will only lead to materialism, consumerism, the destruction of traditional values and social cohesions and will lead to decadence, LGBTQ and “gay” marriage and islamic terrorism etc.
It would be advisable for Cuba to stay away from the American/Western system and stick to its state-controlled socialism.

        • Clausewitz

Proven by whom? Please cite sources.

          • Justin

Proven by reality. Just see what is going on every single Western “liberal democratic” country. Liberal democracy brings about materialism, consumerism, spineless, political-correctness, “human rightism”, It destroys traditional family and religious values and paves the way for profound moral and social corruption such “gay marriage” and LGBTQ activism and social decadence and where there are muslims, it emboldens radical muslims to wage jihad against non-muslims and it destroys and emasculates non-muslims in such a way they cannot defend themselves.

          • Clausewitz

Again please cite reputable peer reviewed sources, not mass generalizations bound only by your feelings.

Dear Mr. Clausewitz, The Soviet Union came to an end and it had nukes. The Castros hold on the country will be eroded by the free exchange of ideas and by consumerism. It’ll just take time

    • Clausewitz

Really, you think that the regime in Cuba will allow the free exchange of ideas even after the Castro’s are gone? Kumbaya my Lord, Kumbaya…………

  • Hard Little Machine

A million Cubans fleeing their country to land in the US. Well get in line with the 11 million Mexicans already here.

  • Pete_Brewster

Obama rewards his friends and punishes his enemies. Cuba gets restored relations and oilworkers in flyover states and provinces get kicked in the crotch. Lovely.

  • Edubeat
