Europe Declares War on the Internet

“Spanish newspapers formed suicide pact, invited Google to pull the trigger. Google did.” — Twitter user.

Spain’s ailing newspaper industry, which is utterly dependent upon Google News search engine to drive traffic and revenues, is now at risk.

The spirit of the new law “is not really about compensation, but about extorting money from Google… The final result of the Google Tax: no one gets paid, media lose traffic and Internet users lose an important service. Spanish newspaper publishers should be thankful that an external agent drives readers to their publications for free.” — Alfredo Pasqual, technology commentator.

Europe’s obsession with Google may be more about anti-Americanism than anything else…

This is a great lesson for all of Europe, if only they will listen.
Europe has a history of going after American tech companies for all manner of reasons, all usually made up, because they want the money.
Microsoft, Google, Apple, Intel, Motorola… are all seen as cash cows to be milked.
    Besides, it’s only American money!

True and funny that they are never innovative to produce the equivalent or better. Much easier to take advantage of the creativity of others, then try to milk all they can. Israel alone has more creativity and produces more innovations than all the EU combined.

I wished Europe would create a Google, or an Intel, or a Microsoft, or anything I might want to use that’s not a car or a temptious red head.
The competition would be great for everyone, everywhere!

are you talking about Audrey Fleurot?

          • Drunk_by_Noon

            Yeah, she’ll do!

Actually I didn’t have anyone in mind but only an indistinct memory of a 1960’s photograph of an Italian actress (I don’t even remember her name) I had once seen.

If Audrey were to claim she had invented the internet I would nod and say OK, Al Gore? not so much.

Europe needs to believe that America and The Jooos are their enemy because the reality of who their real enemy is is too frightening to contemplate and it’s already too late to do anything about that.

Some are waking up, but most are not, although perhaps they admit privately. Who knows?

Literacy will be banned in Europe soon anyway. It’s not sharia compliant.

Could be a blessing in disguise. Now Spaniards may have to find non-MSM sources of news.
