Sydney jihadi brides-to-be call home

TWO young Somalian women who fled western Sydney for the battlefields of Syria reportedly in the hope of wedding jihadists have made contact with their families, letting them know they have arrived.

The pair — believed to have left about 10 days ago to offer themselves as jihadi brides — are 18-year-old Hodan from St Marys and 20-year-old Hasfa from Lakemba.

Community leaders painted a picture yesterday of two quiet women with no known connection to radical Islam.

Australian Somali Community Association chairman Abdullahi Farah said the girls had contacted their families once “through social media” to say they had passed Turkey and reached Syria.
