The Rise of Jihadists in Spain

The number of jihadist fighters and recruiters has risen significantly in Western European countries since the advance of Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Iraq. Meanwhile the expansion of global jihad has mostly affected countries like France, the UK or Belgium. Up until recently, Spain wasn’t in the international spotlight when it came to jihadists. But in the last few months the Spanish police and national security forces have faced a real internal threat as radical Spanish Muslims’ support for the so-called Islamic State grows rapidly in the country.
