Japan newspaper apologizes for running anti-Semitic ad

TOKYO, Japan — A conservative Japanese daily on Saturday apologized for carrying an advertisement for books by an author who claims Jewish people were behind the country’s 2011 earthquake-tsunami disaster.

The advert ran in a November 26 regional edition of the Sankei Shimbun national newspaper, and promoted the works of Richard Koshimizu, a self-styled journalist and activist who also blames Jews for the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in the United States.

Koshimizu has claimed the Holocaust was a “fabrication” designed to establish the state of Israel…

Does Japan even have any Jews?
    I find this totally mystifying.

    • Alain

No, there are no Jews other than possibly a few foreigners temporarily residing in Japan with no hope of permanent residency much less Japanese citizenship. However this is not the first time that anti-Semitism reared its head in Japan, yet another country with no Jews. Furthermore they know really nothing about Jews or Judaism other than the odd bit of imported vile. Jews there are just considered gaijin along with all the rest.

        It is the damnedest thing.
It’s like me waking up and deciding that I don’t like New Guinea tribesmen.
It’s even doubly weird because Japan is not some fly infested cesspool that’s stuck in the 7th century.

Yes, but there are many countries without any Jewish presence where you can find imported anti-Semitism. Still there was a Japanese diplomat during WW II who rescued many Jews fleeing the Nazis even though Germany and Japan were allies at the time. Also a late friend who was but a child when his family escaped ended up in an area of China controlled by the Japanese. He had a strong admiration for the Japanese due to the good treatment he received from them as a child. His family was Jewish fleeing the Nazis from Holland. So a Jew would be treated the same as any other foreigner in Japan today in spite of this. In closing I should add that you can find some really what I call crazy or kinky ideas there which tend to be ignored by the majority of the people. I know from having lived and married there, and in spite of it all I love the place and Japanese culture.

I was just thinking it might be time for another. Just give them something to occupy themselves with. They need that sort of thing, the Japanese, or they go weird.

      How bizarre.

Wow, that is one of the strangest I have heard in some time, thanks.

At least, the newspaper apologized. How many Western papers apologize for their own antisemitic bilge?

  • And why would anyone take this nutbar seriously?

This is why newspapers deserve to lose business.

But I thought Global Warming cause the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
