Detroit: Man, Daughter Killed in Gunfight During Foreclosure Eviction

A 74-year-old man and his 37-year-old daughter were killed in a weekend gunfight as they tried to claim a home they’d purchased in a Wayne County tax auction this fall.

The two, whose names were not released, had a court order in their possession and were trying to evict the people living in the home, located in the 15000 block of Piedmont in Detroit’s historic Rosedale Park area, The Detroit News reports.

It’s unclear if the occupants of the home were the owners who lost it in an October tax sale or squatters.

Neighbors are worried similar encounters may follow. This fall, Wayne County officials began foreclosure actions on 75,000 homes – 62,000 of them in Detroit, and more than half of them occupied – to collect on back taxes.

Who would want to buy property in Detroit anyways, much less pay for the privilege of living in a place that has become a post-apocalyptic wasteland?

I hear that in some places, they can’t even give real estate away, and this can be considered one more reason…

      No kidding.

All Detroit needs is areas contaminated with radiation and some mutant creatures, and it would look like a place out of Fallout or Wasteland (An old classic DOS Game). It already has the neglected buildings, the lack of law and order, and the infestations of undesirables and feral animals…

This is what you get with a generation of people who think movies and video games are real life. You don’t actually GET to get in a gunfight with the cops and walk away from it. If you ever get the chance see the movie “The wild and wonderful Whites of West Virginia” – it’s a documentary. The best part of the movie is when one of the Whites gets in an 8 hr gunfight and standoff with the FBI and when interviewed after his arrest, genuinely believed he’d be given ‘probation, or maybe 8, 9 months lockup’ unquote. He got 30 years. This is the kind of delusion people live in now.
