The BBC man said that it was, “a moment of rich symbolism in terms of the inter-faith dialogue” that the Pope is trying to promote.

      hmm, in some years Ottoman empire was tolerant, at least it was more tolerant for Jews then Christian empires were for them. But it was only for a short time and Jews were always a scapegoats if things went wrong. The Christians were also tolerated, but only as dhimmis, and if things went wrong they also were a scapegoats.
