Egyptian TV host suspended after reference to 1967 defeat

An Egyptian TV presenter of a popular show was suspended this weekend after a guest made a reference to the defeat of Arab armies, including Egypt’s, in the 1967 war with Israel.

Mahmoud Saad, who hosts the “Akher El-Nahar” show on Al-Nahar TV, a private channel, was told, apparently by the channel’s executives, that he could not go on air Saturday as scheduled, Egyptian news site Ahram Online reported.

The channel reportedly accused the show of airing a segment that was “demotivating the army” and promised to make “substantial changes” to its programming.

“The channel will prohibit the appearance of a number of guests who promote ideas that weaken the morale of the Egyptian army,” the statement read, as cited by the Egyptian website…
