Iraq debate dodged real questions for stale rhetoric

It is a credit to our system that Parliament debated our Iraq mission. Unfortunately they had a partisan squabble over whether Canada is doing too much when we needed a statesmanlike discussion of whether we are doing too little.
The Opposition was especially feeble. At least the Conservatives were talking about Iraq. The NDP and Liberals were talking about the Conservatives. To the answer how bad is ISIS and what should we do, they replied that Harper is awful and we shouldn’t join his swaggering macho war.

This answer is completely disconnected from reality. It isn’t Harper’s war. It’s Obama’s. And it’s not a war, it’s a limited military action. Too limited, probably. And that’s not a quibble. It’s the crux of the matter.
