Mr Kassig, 26, of Indianapolis, was abducted on October 1 last year while in Syria working with an aid group he founded.
The couple, who have remained silent for the last year in the hope their son’s life might be spared, described the aid work that he had been carrying out in the region in a direct message to his captors.
“He grew to love and admire the Syrian people and felt at home there, our son’s journey culminated in him embracing Islam,” said his father Ed.

I wonder if these video appeals are counterproductive. Some psychopaths derive pleasure from such things.
