Twitter ‘hate map’ shows pocket of homophobia in New Mexico

Over the years, we’ve learned anything and everything that goes up on the Internet can be there to stay.

Now with researchers compiling social media trends for entire regions, the hurtful and even hateful stuff written on social media can reflect poorly on entire communities.

One Twitter trend study looked at 150,000 location-tagged posts from across the country.

It looks like a heat map of the United States, but the study refers to it as a “hate map” compiled by students from Humboldt State University in California…
