Chinese graduate student beaten to death near University of Southern California

A Chinese graduate student from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, was beaten to death in a brutal assault near the campus which police are treating as a “homicide.”

Xinran Ji, 24, an engineering student at USC, was assaulted whilst walking near 29th Street and Orchard Avenue at 12.45pm in Los Angeles, California.

Los Angeles Police said Ji was attacked with an “unknown blunt object” by at least three suspects, but managed to stumble back to his apartment block where he was found dead later that morning…

It appears there has been trouble at this campus before.

The article says the campus is fenced, access is limited, ID cards must be shown at certain times and furthermore “Fingerprint scanners, security cameras and licence plate readers were also introduced which led to a fall in reported crimes in 2013.”
