The bodies of 18 people were found yesterday by rescuers on board an overcrowded
migrant invader boat.
Italian and Maltese naval vessels assisted by a passing Danish cargo ship rescued some 400
migrants invaders from the smugglers’ boat in waters between Malta and Libya – and found the bodies inside.
The Italian Coast Guard said one rescued
migrant invader died on board one of its Coast Guard motorboats, raising the death toll to 19. Maltese authorities said many of the bodies were in the vessel’s hold.
There was no word on the nationality of the survivors, who were taken to Italy.
