Charges tossed in case that brought niqab fight to Supreme Court

TORONTO – A marathon case where a Muslim sexual complainant known as N.S. brought the issue of wearing a niqab while testifying to the Supreme Court of Canada ended abruptly Thursday when the Crown withdrew the charges.

The 38-year-old Toronto woman wasn’t in Superior Court when Etobicoke Crown attorney Michael Cantlon said that the prosecution dropped the case, saying “there was no reasonable prospect of conviction” after reviewing the evidence at the preliminary hearing.
