Copenhagen: Turkish man arrested for holding a woman as a sex slave and raping her daily for 40 days

Police in Copenhagen have arrested and charged a 33-year-old man from Turkey with having kept a woman trapped as sex slave in an apartment in Sydhavnen (South Harbour) for over five weeks.

When the man was charged Wednesday (May 20, 2014) in hearings behind closed doors in Copenhagen, he was among others charged with raping the 30-year-old woman daily for approximately 40 days.

“They know each other, but because of the closed-door preliminary hearing, I can not say much on their relationship,” said police inspector Poul Kjeldsen, head of the local investigation in Copenhagen Police to bt.dk.

According to the charges, the 33-year-old slapped the woman with hands, fists and a belt to force sex upon his terrified victim. Typically, he pushed her down on the bed or sofa, stripped her and forced her to perform oral sex, and then he raped her, it said in the prosecution’s charges.

The 33-year-old man pleaded not guilty to all charges, and the judge decided that the suspect’s arrest could be extended for three more days.

The long-term sexual abuse was, according to police charges, in the period from January 9 to February  19 of this year, at the location where the woman was held against her will.  He used violence, threats of violence and locked her inside the apartment whenever he left it.
