Lukaszuk, Kenney remain at odds over TFW program

EDMONTON: Those hoping to hear good news after Alberta jobs minister Thomas Lukaszuk wrote federal immigration minister Jason Kenney this weekend about the Temporary Foreign Workers program are in for a disappointment.

“We agreed on very little,” Lukaszuk said relaying a Tuesday afternoon phone conversation the two had.

The jobs minister wrote Kenney, suggesting the 80,000 people working in Alberta be allowed to stay, and bring their families here.

“It’s amazing how many of these dishwashers and cleaners and nannies who look after our kids become successful over time if they’re given an opportunity and allowed to stay in this country,” Lukaszuk said in a phone interview after spending Tuesday in Edson meeting with the Chamber of Commerce and with some temporary foreign workers.
