An Awami League leader has allegedly vandalised and set fire to a [Hindu] temple to grab its property in Naogaon in northern Bangladesh.

Locals claimed the ruling party’s Niyamatpur Union chief Bazlur Rahman Nayeem led the attack on Sunday evening.

The temple was built on the ground of a crematory six months ago.

Hundreds of Hindus of the union’s four villages have been using crematory for several centuries, locals said.

They said Nayeem attacked the temple when the devotees were preparing to sing hymns.
