Nigeria rejects Boko Haram prisoner swap offer for hostage schoolgirls

Nigerian Islamist militant group Boko Haram released on Monday a video apparently showing about 130 girls kidnapped from a school in northern Nigeria on 14 April.

“We will never release them [the girls] until after you release our brethren,” Shekau says in the video.

However, the Nigerian government quickly rejected the deal.

“The issue in question is not about Boko Haram… giving conditions,” Interior Minister Abba Moro telling Agence France-Presse.

Moro also told the UK’s BBC that it was “absurd” for a “terrorist group” to try to set conditions.

They are right. To bargain with Boko Haram would only encourage even more future kidnapping.
