Foreign worker program: The good the bad and the ugly

There are good employers, there are bad employers, and I’m sorry in my opinion the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is just plain ugly.
In Alberta particularly I know there are labour issues and the oilfield is always beckoning but it’s not for everyone. Right now we hear some of the major restaurant chains clamouring that restaurants may cut their hours, some may even have to close.

Taking a Devil’s advocate approach here for a moment I have to say isn’t that what a free market is all about? For instance do we have to have all those fast food joints selling pretty much the same fare? If some restaurants cut back on hours or even closed altogether would the customer base notice or perhaps even care? I bet not.

I didn’t know much about the TFW program until the latest furor, but I had heard of it and assumed it was for jobs like picking fruit.

This explains why fast food outlets used to hire teen-agers, but in the last couple of years or so, they have been mysteriously replaced by visibly foreign workers.  Now I know why.  I guess the teen-agers are out of luck.

Boycott fast food outlets hiring TFWs.
