Turkey asks Germany to use Berlin Olympic stadium for Turkish presidential elections

The new Olympic Stadium has the highest all-seated capacity in Germany at 74,500

Turkey has applied to the German authorities to use the Berlin Olympic Stadium as a venue for the local Turkish community to vote in the August Turkish presidential elections.

This is the first time the ceremonial position of president will be directly elected. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is rumoured to be interested in running.

There are a potential 2.6 million Turkish voters living in Germany, about 5% of the Turkish electorate. Think of it as Turkish province!
