Mom guilty in ‘honor killing’ dies in prison

ST. LOUIS – The final chapter in a decades-old tragedy that shook a local community to its core has ended.

Sixteen-year-old Palestina Isa was stabbed to death inside her St. Louis home in 1989. The killers were her parents, who were angry at their daughter for resisting the family’s Islamic traditions and becoming “too American.”

The girl’s father, Zein Isa, died in prison several years ago while awaiting execution.

Early Wednesday morning, the girl’s mother, Maria Isa, died behind bars of natural causes.
