Feel-good story of the day: Suicide bomber kills self when bombs goes off too early

SWAT, Pakistan: A suspected militant died when he prematurely detonated his suicide vest in Sarha Chena area of Charbagh district, Swat on Wednesday.

An official of the security forces said an accomplice of the deceased militant managed to escape. He added the two had entered the area in the evening, but locals spotted them and surrounded them with the help of security forces. Soon after, there was a sudden explosion which killed one suspect while the other fled.

The official said nearby buildings were damaged from the impact of the blast, but no human loss was reported. He added a search operation to nab the runaway suspect is under way.

DIG Malakand Police Abdaullah said the militant came to the area to target Dr Farooq, who is a member of a village defence committee and also runs a clinic. He maintained the suicide bomber detonated the explosive vest before he could reach his intended target.
