I grew up seeing the movie several times before reading Grapes of Wrath. Ma Joad has always reminded me of my own Mom, an image ingrained in my psyche from the first time I watched the film as child, when families still huddled around the TV together. I still enjoyed the book, nonetheless it is interesting to see it fact checked against history.
