Michigan: Enrollment down, but diversity and poverty up at local schools

Enrollment continued to fall at area public schools but diversity and poverty continued to climb, according to recently released state data.

Student headcount data from the Michigan Department of Education showed the merger of Albion students into Marshall High School this school year more than doubled the share of students of color at Marshall High, from just under 6 % in fall 2012 to nearly 19% in October 2013.

Students at Marshall High eligible for free or reduced-price lunch — a standard measure of student poverty — rose from 22.5% last school year to 35% this school year…

Diversity is not their strength either?  I am starting to get suspicious of this slogan.
