Syria: Deadly car bomb blasts hit Homs

Cars burn after two car bombs at Karm al-Louz neighbourhood in Homs city, April 9, 2014

Two car bombs exploded minutes apart near a shop in the central Syrian city of Homs on Wednesday, killing at least 25 people, state news media and an antigovernment monitoring group reported.

The death toll in the attack, which targeted a government-controlled area, was expected to rise.

Among the more than 100 people wounded in the bombing in the Karm al-Loz district were many in critical condition, including women and children, according to the state news agency SANA, which said the attack was the work of insurgents fighting the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
