President of mosque Nicholas Teausant attended: It’s all about us, it might affect community’s perceptions of Muslim community

California student arrested at the US-Canada border and accused of plotting to help a terror group and join al-Qaeda, as well as talking about attacking Los Angeles

Khan Naem, like most local residents, was shocked after learning the FBI arrested a 20-year-old Acampo man, and Muslim convert, for allegedly attempting to fight alongside militants in Syria’s civil war.

But as president of the Lodi Muslim Mosque, Naem also wondered whether what police describe as one local man’s radical plan would harm the perception of the local Muslim community.
Naem hopes the shock of this week’s arrest will soon subside. If it continues to capture headlines, he fears it could spark a divide between Muslims and some non-Muslims.

“I’m worried about our mosque,” he said.
