University of Ottawa suspends men’s hockey team over allegations of misconduct

OTTAWA — The University of Ottawa has suspended its men’s varsity hockey program after allegations surfaced that multiple members of the team were involved in a sexual assault.

The incident, involving one alleged female victim, a university student in Thunder Bay, was reported to the school by a third party on Feb. 24, according to a statement issued by the University of Ottawa on Monday.

The school reported the incident to police the day after being made aware of the allegations and said it would co-operate fully with any police investigation. Thunder Bay police’s sexual assault unit is leading the investigation.
