From the desk of Syed Soharwardy, Canada’s leading Islamic Scholar and Top Banana of The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada.
(Calgary) “The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada and its affiliate mosques and organization request Prime Minister Stephen Harper and all the premiers of the Canadian provinces and the territories to officially recognize the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) called Eid Milad un Nabi. This year Eid Milad un Nabi falls on January 14, 2014. This recognition is important for the Canadian Muslims. It is an important day of joy and celebration across the Muslim world.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born in Makkah on 12th Rabi Al Awwal (3rd month of the Islamic calendar) in 571 A.D. Eid Milad un Nabi is a national holiday in all Muslim countries except Saudi Arabia. Just like Jehovah Witness among Christians who do not celebrate Christmas, the followers of Wahabi sect in Islam do not celebrate Eid Milad un Nabi (Peace be upon him). However, the overwhelming majority of Muslims does celebrate this important day. Eid Milad un Nabi is also a national holiday in several non-Muslim countries including India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Fiji, Trinidad & Tobago, etc..
By the grace of Allah Canada is the only country in the world where Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) birthday celebrations will continue for four months; the longest celebrations in the world.”
The longest MoDown in the world huh? Lucky us.
