Liberals likely intervened to prevent liquor strike, union leader says

The Ontario Liberal government seems to have intervened at the last minute to ask the LCBO to prevent a liquor store strike, urging negotiators to back down from the government’s stated policy, the president of the union said Monday.

The Liberals had promised to hold the line on public sector wage increases, but the LCBO agreed to give workers signing bonuses and raises as Ontarians swamped stores ahead of the threatened strike on the eve of the Victoria Day weekend.
