Jews demonstrate against anti-Semitism in Malmo Sweden

STOCKHOLM – Several hundred Jews and their supporters marched in the southern city of Malmo on Saturday to bring attention to intolerance and anti-Semitic attacks in the Nordic country.

Malmo, which has a large immigrant Muslim community, saw a surge in hate crimes against Jews after Israel’s invasion of Gaza in 2009.

“In 2010, Malmo Mayor Ilmar Reepalu said that a group of Jews in Malmo who were attacked by Swedish Muslims during a peaceful protest in support of Israel brought the violence upon themselves for not distancing themselves from Israel and its actions during the monthlong Gaza War in 2008-09.”
