“If he misses the parade and attends the flag-raising, I think we’ll all see that as a step forwards,” Mr. Vaughan said.
Actually Adam Vaughan, that would be a step backwards.
The Star: Mayor Rob Ford refuses to attend Pride parade
Pride Toronto executive director Kevin Beaulieu called his decision disappointing.
“Obviously, you hope someone will attend when you give them an invitation,” Beaulieu said. “We would look forward to support from our elected officials and it’s maybe disappointing if they’re not able to show that support, sure.” Oh Boo Frickin Hoo!
Allison Weber, 43, a marketing consultant, also had her perceptions and assumptions about gays challenged by the parade.
“My understanding was that gay people are just like everybody else–decent, hard-working people who care about their communities and have loving, committed relationships,” Weber said. “But, after this terrifying spectacle, I don’t want them teaching my kids or living in my neighborhood.”
A child’s view of last years Pride Parade.
