Why I Fear America Could Enslave Black People Again

Tavis Smiley is a celebrity of sorts and does not appear to be kidding

…at the conclusion of my talk, I was introduced to another question that still haunts me. I had handled most of the closing Q&A questions. Then one student hit me with this:

“Mr. Smiley, do you believe that given the crisis state of our democracy, we black folk could ever find ourselves enslaved again?”

Whoa. Didn’t see that one coming. Neither did the mostly white audience. A quiet fell over the room. I swallowed hard.

Looking directly at the student, I could see he was dead serious, and I wanted to treat his question with the soberness it deserved. But, truthfully, I stumbled as I began to respond, not knowing how to properly frame my response.

My answer? Yes.                                                    h/t

Enslaved? To do WHAT, exactly? Pick cotton by hand? What menial economic task would make slavery more cost-effective than automation?

LOL! I’d bet you could run a website for a good profit matching up people, like a dating website, but offering free membership to black people and paid membership for guilty white pseudo-liberals to offer to be their slaves for the weekend, a couple of weeks (A Slavecation), a month, or whatever. Perhaps they could be permanently indentured after 7 years by having an earlobe punctured with an awl at the door frame, as in Exodus 21:5,6.

      1-900-YT-GUILT sorta similar:

      • That’s quite amazing. Particularly the first few seconds. And I don’t remember In Living Color ever being all that funny. Second look at the Wayans Brothers? (They produced Scary Movie.)

I liked it fine when it came out although not all of the characters. I never took to Jim Carrey’s Fire Marshal Bill for example.

And I don’t remember it lasting as long as it did according to IMDB so maybe I did just watch the first several seasons and not all of it?

      • Abu Nudnik

        Thanks. I never saw that.

  • This nation has learned about the long term results of importing black slaves. Believe me when I say, “Never again.”

I doubt anyone would want modern blacks as slaves. I was thinking more along the lines of Soylent Green, Cajun style.

The insanity and dishonesty never stop.

    Democracy requires a higher i.q.

Work for pay might be considered slavery if you felt entitled to have a white man work for pay and then turn it over to you.

So why is Travis not fleeing to an African country? Just asking.

  • Blacksmith

Oh hell no! We have learned the lessons from history. Wish those who imported them never did it.

  • andycanuck

The guy’s an idiot. Even his non-political interviews with e.g. musicians have him saying dumb things.

  • Clausewitz

Travis is a cheap third rate black racist, and that is why he’ll never rise above being a pet on PBS.

  • WalterBannon

What he does not get, as he sits there on the Clinton plantation voting for his masters, is that he is a slave right now!
