Oh joy! 80+% of Chinese pharma data fabricated

From Fiona Macdonald at ScienceAlert:

A Chinese government investigation has revealed that more than 80 percent of the data used in clinical trials of new pharmaceutical drugs have been “fabricated”.

The report uncovered fraudulent behaviour at almost every level, and showed that some pharmaceutical companies had hidden or deleted records of potentially adverse side effects, and tampered with data that didn’t meet their desired outcomes.More.

Odd way of putting things:

As damning as this problem is for China’s scientists, they aren’t the only ones that are under more and more pressure to publish positive and “groundbreaking” results in order to keep their jobs.

A study published earlier this month revealed that the enormous pressure on academics is acting like a form of natural selection, and evolving science into something “shoddy and unreliable”.

    There is nothing

    wrong with

    Chinese pharmaceuticals.

One of the rules by which I live my life is

Do not ingest anything made in or connected to China, a land where counterfeits are the norm.

You have to be careful as our crony capitalists try to sneak it in wherever they can. For example, there’s a honey on the shelves of a top grocery chain that proclaims on its label to be proudly Canadian – even flies the flag. It’s only when you turn it around and read the fine print that you discover it’s a “blend of Canadian and Chinese honeys.”

No thank you. My Chinese friends have told me plenty of horror stories about Chinese foods and I want nothing to do with it.

We all heard about the tainted baby formula now Pharmaceuticals, the thing is ALL of the made in north america brands are assembled from probable Chinese precursors and admixtures imported with very little quality assurance , I am increasingly nervous about ALL commercial cat foods The chances we are poisoning our pets are very high.

I would avoid anything ingestable from China until it has been proven consistently safe.

So far I think we are lucky down here in that finding Chinese foodstuffs is almost impossible, or it’s everywhere and not being labeled as such.
