DRESDEN, Germany – Violence erupted in the Germany’s eastern city, Dresden ahead of celebrations marking 26th anniversary of German reunification.
Reports stated that unidentified perpetrators set three police cars ablaze, following which security was beefed up.
Germany had been divided into a capitalist west and communist east after the end of World War II and it was reunified on October 3, 1990.
The country’s reunification 26 years ago was marked amid tight security also because only last week, a mosque and a conference centre in Dresden came under attack after homemade explosives went off at the premises. No injuries were reported in the attack, but it led law enforcement officials to beef up security.
