‘Values’ test proposal makes Kellie Leitch a favourite for Conservative party leadership: poll

HALIFAX — Support and name recognition for Tory leadership candidate Kellie Leitch has spiked on the heels of her proposing a “values” test for immigrants, according to a new poll that shows the issue seems to have traction with Conservative party supporters.

And as I’m sure you’re all aware… Conservative leadership race blown wide open after Peter MacKay announces he is not running

I’ve been liking Maxime Bernier for his libertarian [adjective] positions on a lot of things, but I have to say that Leitch seems to ‘get it’ on at least this one very important issue.

[As a Libertarian [noun] I am in principle an advocate of open borders and free immigration. However I am also an advocate of ending the welfare state, the income tax, anti-discrimination laws and any law that militates against the right of self-defense and the right to own and carry weapons. I’ll wait for those things to come about first before we start opening up the border to all and sundry…]

    • Brett_McS

Nice to see a libertarian who has some concept of the nature of time and the ordering of things.

    • FactsWillOut

Freedom, it seems, will have to wait until after we win the war against the left.
In the meantime, brownshirt vs brownshirt it is.
If we don’t win, well, we’re fucked.

    • FactsWillOut

They said Harpo was a Libertarian. How’d that work out?
There are no libertarians in politics.

  • Alain

For me that is certainly a huge plus for her, but I would need to know more about where she stands on other issues. I do agree that this issue is a major one, but there also needs to be an end to mass immigration, especially from the 3rd world.

    • FactsWillOut

She’ll double immigration, and use her harshly worded questionnaire as a pretext.

      • Alain

You may be right, but we don’t know. My point is I am waiting for a candidate to address this issue, and so far none have. Unless it is dealt with I agree that all this vetting will mean nothing.

Meanwhile the Toronto Star website reports that a muslim man and another man got into an argument at York University, resulting in one of them getting stabbed. Just the right values I guess the vote whore politicians are letting into this country. The argument was over religion. Meanwhile elsewhere in the Star, Islamophobia is running rampant across North America. Whatever.

    • JaedoDrax

Well that’s an obvious case of Islamophobia, after all it involved a muslim being provoked into a case of the stabbies.

  • FactsWillOut

Maybe we can get another Harper, who can ignore the right to bear arms, private property rights, economic freedoms, and double Muzz immigration.

  • Flyboy

National Post article is misleading when it draws attention to how Conservatives feel about immigrants who oppose abortion and homosexuality. Leitch has gained traction, rather, because Conservatives want to know how immigrants feel about supremacist ideologies underpinned by Sharia’h Law.

  • We shouldn’t have to weed out people this way but it is sadly necessary. Islamist thugs have no place in the sane world.

I think it’s very difficult to implement policies that are not on the left. The civil service seems to be very leftist. Since they use their unions to work on leftist policies. I would imagine they would do a lot to try and make any policy they don’t agree with fail.

    • Alain

Spot on concerning the federal civil service. It needs to be purged and all public service unions need to be abolished.

  • DavidinNorthBurnaby

So, she is being excoriated for thinking we should screen out people who want to put women in bags and throw faggots off roofs. It’s impossible to keep up with the PC crowd they’re just weird..

    • disqusW6sf

      They’re aliens.

  • A Hamilton Guy

I like Bernier, but Kelly has caught my attention, we’ll wait and see.

  • John

Well, when you compare her to Ontario’s clueless premier, it’s definately a case of Good-Dyke, Bad-Dyke.
