Internal division and struggle for control for the sikh temple. Don’t you just love diversity!

  • Sharkibark

The local police say it’s because of “a mixed race marriage” taking place. Anyone want to guess if one of the “races” were part of a certain religion of peace?

    • And who has a propensity toward sword violence?

      • Sharkibark

Apparently a group calling themselves Sikh Youth Birmingham have now claimed responsibility for the siege.

    • tom_billesley

The objection is to a mixed marriage i.e. Sikh and non-Sikh. It’s not the first such incident in the UK.

  • How is 30 people attacking a temple not terrorism?

I hate Wikipedia, but: “Terrorism is, in its broadest sense, the use or threatened use of violence (terror) in order to achieve a political, religious, or ideological aim.

    Media dhimmitude.

    • PaulW

They are dhimmis (and worse) but in this case maybe they’re sort of accurate: let’s assume it’s an “honor” killing situation. In which case the goal was not specifically the weakening of Western culture and civilization, and the spreading of Islam, but this was then just an example of everyday, humdrum, brutal, barbaric Islam in action. (But I suppose one could make an argument that the ideology of Islam itself, as it is meant to be practiced given the example of the perfect man, IS terrorist ….)

    • ntt1

it is a slightly more violent presentation of a certain point of view similar to the united church finally objecting to an atheist holding forth from its pulpits. not terrorism just sikhism

  • Exile1981

looks like all they did was sit and pray.

  • tom_billesley

“some of the men are in possession of bladed items….”
Err, that would be all Sikh men carrying a kirpan, a dagger or sword (even if just a miniature blunt token weapon under their clothes). Carrying one at all times is a tenet of Sikhism, one of the five khalsa..

    • ntt1

at the ross temple battle a few years back the kirpans were full on sabres 36 inches long.

    • Malcolm Y

Were the “bladed items” ceiling fans?

  • tom_billesley

55 people arrested. That’ll keep the booking desk busy if they’re all charged.

  • tom_billesley

    Just having a dance officer….

  • ntt1

we had this in vancouver a few years ago, it was over control of the temple on ross street. one faction wanted to use chairs at the dining hall the other traditional sitting on the floor.
It ended up with pitched sword fights using kirpans which are not the cute little butter knife type thing Sikhs insist they are.

    • UCSPanther

I remember seeing a similar riot on the news back in the 1990s, when a group of Sikh fanatics stormed a dining hall and tried to forcibly remove the tables and chairs.

      • ntt1

thats the time. many of the elderly wanted chairs and table as floor sitting was too difficult for them. it was sikh youth international a terrorist group that was behind it.

  • canminuteman

As long as they stick to killing each other I really don’t care.

  • Blacksmith

Seriously, Deport every one of those assholes to a shit hole more in line with their level of civility.
