Israel building underground wall around Gaza

Israel has begun work on a deep underground wall along its border with the Gaza Strip in order to prevent Hamas from digging cross-border tunnels into Israel. The barrier will run about 37 miles along the border with Gaza, and be equipped with sensors. The Gaza Strip, where about 1.8 million Palestinians live, is already surrounded by a sophisticated system of walls, fences, sensors, and a military patrol road – and the new structure will extends these barriers underground.

What a waste of money. Seismic detectors can easily read the digging activity and will be a lot cheaper than digging a barrier.

Detection is one thing, physical barriers are another. If detection was enough there would be no need for a wall above the ground either.

I agree about the waste of money but for a different reason. Had the Israeli government not forced the removal of all the successful Jews living there, in part of their homeland, in order to hand it over to Muslim Arab squatters in the first place, none of this would be necessary.

Israel gave up land for peace, now they have neither.
