Edmonton man arrested for aggravated assault after saving his mother from two ‘violent’ carjackers

After saving his mother from two would-be carjackers, an Edmonton man is facing an assault charge of his own.

“It was just terrifying, I’m shaking just talking about it,” said his mother, who asked not to be named out of fear of retribution.

It’s no wonder the statement “Cops are not your friends” ring so true. These low lifes will likely be out on the street pretty soon to harass some else.

    • Sad but true.

If they were cleared off the streets, there wouldn’t be a need for more cops.

And cops wonder why people don’t stand behind them when the criminals start killing them off. These guys(cops) are clueless.

the second suspect was walking away from the scene “casually, as if nothing happened,” off to prey on some other unsuspecting woman or older person … until the son and his baseball bat intervened.

What’s the betting on the relative length of sentences if the son is found guilty by some numpty jury?

    • Given the Perps were natives it’s likely they will sentenced to a healing circle or some such nonsense.

The son will be forced to spend a huge amount of money on defense lawyers, so even if acquitted or if the case is thrown out he still will pay.

This is why we have jury trials. I have a hard time believing a jury would convict him given the circumstances. I don’t even think he should have been charged. We are well within our rights to detain criminals until the police arrive. I wonder if the police would have arrested him if the two guys weren’t natives.

    • He will have to prove he used a reasonable and appropriate amount of force to stop a criminal act.

And that the mom et alia still had to be under threat. If the one @sshole was far enough away in his “casual walk”, the cops/Crown might say he was no longer a danger and should have been allowed to escape.

        • tom_billesley

He was still a threat that could return. The Belgrano defence.

Years ago I was the victim of an attempted car jacking in Edmonton. The cop that showed up refused to allow the ambulance to take me away to the hospital until he had a statement. He threatened me because I had fought back with my bare hands vs. a guy with a screwdriver and a mag light flashlight. He also saw no reason to pull finger prints from the white vehicle that the attacker had left after I broke his nose. He said it cost too much to run finger prints and there was no value in it.

Eventually I was transported to the hospital and had numerous stitches put in my head and shoulder from stab and flashlight strikes.

BUT I did keep my vehicle.

That is why I will drive 100km out of my way to go around edmonton rather than drive in that cesspool.

    • Cripes, some cop.

      • tom_billesley

Lazy sod wanted the statement but gathered no evidence to warrant doing anything more than leave the case on file.

In fairness this was nearly a decade ago and I’ve since heard that the ring that was carjack and stealing nearly 100 trucks a week may have had police on the payroll and a lot of cops were looking the other way.

          • tom_billesley

            Oh… corruption not indolence then.

          • Exile1981

Or fear of his fellow officers. Who knows but it left a bad taste for edmonton cops with me.

A Gladue Report will suggest the woman turn over her car and apologize for being white, just because the perp’s great-great-great-grandfather was kilt, drunk, lying on the road, stepped on by a horse…

One of the most disgraceful, politically correct reports.

Canadian cops don’t believe in self-defence.

    • favill

You’re right. They want you to be a victim, because “only government can take care of you.”

      • antigordonandjustin

Yup. Elected officials, prosecutors & police EXPECT you to LET the criminal victimize/hurt/kill you, then TRUST them & the ‘legal’ system – with its soft-hearted judges, slick defense lawyers & spineless prosecutors (except when prosecuting crime VICTIMS) – to deal with these gutter rat criminals. Shame on the Crown & these police for this shameful prosecution of a man who dared to defend his mother against a pair of low-lifes.

    • antigordonandjustin

It’s not the cops alone; they take their marching orders from the Attorney-Generals (both federal & provincial). These fools, along with a lot of LOSERS in the Crown Prosecutor’s office, do NOT believe in the right of self-defence & routinely ignore it. That is why so many crime victims are being charged with hurting the poor little criminal, because a criminal has more rights. So says the Charter of Rights.
