Two Belgian police officers have been injured after being attacked by a man wielding a machete in the city of Charleroi.
The assailant was heard shouting “Allahu Akhbar” as he attacked the two female officers, according to Belgian police. He was shot and wounded at the scene of the attack, outside the city’s main police station.
The area around the police station has been cordoned off.

A man wielding a machete and shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ attacked two officers outside a Belgian police station today.
The attack happened in the city of Charleroi, where local police said they had injured the attacker after opening fire.
They then Tweeted: ‘Two police officers injured by machete in front of police by someone shouting Allah Akhkbar. Individual was shot but is alive.’
